Here are the most significant territorial factions of the current era. For roughly two hundred years, the recovery of the world’s population has been directed by the efforts of two opposing powers and their various allies – the Tamaran Triad and the Free East. Each has its roots in the ancient conflict of the Automatic War, being descended and from and biased by long-ago alliances and animosities. The conflict still plays out in some places, though for the most part the world has moved on. Its constituents have new priorities. Two hundred years ago, the haphazard repopulation of the Eastern Coastal Territories was interrupted by Her Excellency, the Decider. She claimed to be the last living remnant of the Creator State, and with her arsenal of strange weapons and mechanical followers, she took over the provinces of Erdanis, Caefax, and the Twin Paradise which now bears her namesake. This Tamaran Triad is now considered to be the world’s most powerful faction, limited only by the range of Her Excellency’s fearsome weaponry. Opposing her are those driven from the West by her ambitions, those who fought against her or refused to follow her direction. They are the provinces of the Free East, those who braved the wilds of Arthandur to escape the expanding radius of the Triad’s control. This boreal hinterland separates their territories, at least for now, and resists either side’s intrusion. To the south lies the third most significant world power, the Monopoly of Haun, with its vast resources and enormous slave armies. They moderate between the two more ideological factions, technically neutral, but leaning towards the wealthier Triad for the most part. The remaining factions are for the most part either independent and of scant importance to either side. The Vindovans keep to themselves and have little interest in trade or expansion, while the skole clans of Freilu are too few in number to take back Erdanis, their former home, and care for little else aside from survival. The lutrai of Cekus, meanwhile, have found territories of little strategic importance, and have no use for politics. Nevertheless, the two opposing powers have swept them up in their conflict, seeking every possible ally or advantage. Narada and Axis are ‘dead’ territories and haven’t been claimed by either.
