SOUTHERN LUTRAI

This was the S-Type, or South Sea lutrai line. They were the domestic group fashioned as a decoy by Diamond Life, seemingly harmless, cheerful, and unsuitable for war. This was actually managed by suppressing certain features rather than removing them, and so their false hyphael is more subject to mutation. They have an unusual number of talented bards as a result, since they were intended to be entertainers or, at most, swimming instructors in an age when swimming pools and waterparks were the height of fashion. They’re softer than their northern cousins and a lot more carefree, with a disdain for clothing and conflict. They do end up collecting a lot of interesting artifacts from the Bygone, however, due to their proximity to the scavenger shipping lanes between Axis and the Tamaran Triad.

They’re in occasional territorial conflict with the saurian czath of that region, who serve the Decider’s slaving guild, the Voronoi. This has developed a particular type of rogue called a Chainbreaker, a deliberately-taken slave trained to sabotage and destroy the entire operation from within. Cekus is full of these grinning minxes.

  • All Natural: Clothes aren't a necessity down south where it's warm and tropical. The lutrai might wear clothes for the pockets but don't expect a dress code down there. Many of them are naturalist like Marteke here, but this has only strengthened their self-confidence and natural poise. They find it funny that people often panic without their clothes.

  • Moon Paint: There's plenty of old battery dust down south, so the lutrai end up with a lot of glowing body paint. This is just regular paint with crushed up luminite or luxic powder, which causes it to glow faintly long after exposure to light, or flare with strange, subtle colours in the moonlight. The material is harmless, but don't get it in the food.

  • Ayoka: Once a condition, now a class, the Ayoka is a derangement of the false hyphael, the brain structure which made them familiars to the Creator State. These artificial brain radios are still present, though non-functional in most lutrai. Except the Ayoka, of course, who can activate them.
