CARGO CULTS

There are two ways to get the precious Bygone artifacts from fallen Axis to the big money waiting in Tamara. Ships leaving from Hotzone have two options, one dangerous route through the Isthmus of Caefax and all its corrupt officiation, or direct via the straight of Cekus. This takes ships through a dangerously-unpredictable belt of ocean that touches the lunar wave-path. Even the faint edge of the path is subject to sudden tidal drops or terrible storms the likes of which appear nowhere else on Rym. Many ships are destroyed, yet the risk is worth it for those who want the biggest prizes.

And so, quite frequently, boxes filled with strange things will wash up on the shores of Koau and other islands in the archipelago. When they do, local tribes will be transformed for a period of days to weeks or even longer as they go through all the stuff. The ones who truly thrive on this practice and its strange bounty are called ‘cargo cults’. They believe that many of these items serve some mysterious purpose, often hilariously incorrect, and occasionally have to contend with the ones who come looking for their lost cargo after a wreck.

  • Composite (Spring-Ram) This is made from an aerodyne landing gear spring and a recoil piston, carefully cobbled into a demolition device. This is a composite, a device made from several parts as opposed to one whole artifact. They're often longer-lasting than the whole goods made in a disposable age, being made from more durable military or commercial pieces. It has the same function as a Ring of the Ram, let's say, or anything with a strong punch and push-back effect. We're just giving the traditional enchantment a bit of a modern skin.

  • Whole (Combat Towel): These are complete items as opposed to repurposed part-clusters. Here you see the AM-SL32 Drying Unit, or Combat Towel. This was actually their cultural weapon of choice, developed into a martial art over the course of the last seven hundred years. The Surfing Monks of the lunar wave prize these towels and will even train someone who brings them one. Many tribes collect them as flags or banners, but for the most part
